Summary[edit]

Description
English: The state of Alaska was in the full grip of winter on January 31, 2018, when NASA’s Terra satellite passed overhead. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) flying aboard acquired a true-color image of a part of southern Alaska on that same day, showing a scene well-covered in winter white. Snow covers the land from Nome, which sits near the western border of this image, to the border with Canada in the east. Sea ice clings to the coastline in the west, floating over the waters of Bristol Bay. Heavy cloud arcs over the Gulf of Alaska in the southeast, likely bringing additional snow.
