Description
English: Mask, Attie (or Akye) peoples, Côte d'Ivoire, Late 19th to early 20th century, Wood, fur, pigment

Attie masquerades, which have not been performed in decades, were danced to ward off disasters such as smallpox epidemics or war. Masks that danced these performances are rare and represent a variety of wilderness spirits. The description of a disciplinarian, yet somewhat amusing character called Aken may apply to this mask, although it cannot be confirmed.
