| Description |
Türkçe: Türkiye'nin doğusunda, Van Gölü üzerindeki Akdamar Adası'nda yer alan bir kilise. Kudüs'ten İran'a kaçırıldıktan sonra 7. yüzyılda Van yöresine getirildiği rivayet edilen Hakiki Haç'ın bir parçasını barındırmak maksadıyla Kral I. Gagik'in emriyle 915-921 yıllarında Mimar Manuel tarafından inşa edilmiştir. Adanın güney doğusuna kurulmuş olan kilise, mimari açıdan Ortaçağ Ermeni sanatının en parlak eserleri arasında sayılır. Kızıl andezit taşından inşa edilmiş olan kilisenin dış cephesi, alçak rölyef şeklinde işlenmiş zengin bitki ve hayvan motifleriyle ve Kutsal Kitap'tan alınma sahnelerle bezenmiştir. Kilise bu özelliğiyle de Ermeni mimari tarihi içinde eşsiz bir konuma sahiptir. |
