Thick black smoke cloud spreading above the ground, due to atmospheric inversion conditions, in Lille (Northern France), at the end of the Bois Citadelle 25 on the evening of February 25, 2019

Summary

[edit]
Description

English: This phenomenon occurred Monday, February 25, 2019 in the early evening, in the Citadel's Wood, Avenue du Petit Paradis ... in Lille (Northern France) where many walkers and joggers come for less polluted air.

This sheet of black smoke, thick and very odorous (type plastic and / or burnt tires) emerged from below the bridge that supports the device and spans the Canal Esplanade (near the lock Grand Square)..
This Canal is sometimes also called medium-Deûle because between Haute-Deûle and Basse-Deûle. The smoke formed for several tens of minutes a thick and opaque sheet that did not rise to the sky. This smoke was flowing down the slope and above the Esplanade canal (and even the Deûle Canal a few dozen meters away). It stagnated a few meters thick.

Remarks: this area is also home to "allotment gardens". The smoke stopped suddenly (tires or machinery on fire thrown into the canal?).
