I attended the 2010 AirExpo at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie, MN today and took a whole bunch of photos. This is one of my favorites. This is a highly modified Hawker Sea Fury named "Riff Raff". It is modified to be an unlimited racer and is regularly shown at air shows across the U.S. and at the Reno Air Races. It is owned and flown by Mike Keenum. The Sea Fury is one of the fastest piston engine airplanes ever built and is a British design. This type of aircraft was developed for WWII, but was not in production until after the war ended. The original aircraft would have had a Bristol Centaurus engine with a five bladed propellor. Riff Raff was re-engined with a Wright R-3350 that develops over 3000 horsepower and then mated with a 4-bladed propellor from a Corsair. |
