Summary[edit]

Description

The Right Guard The pair of noble soldiers guarding the tomb's entrance wear kausias (Macedonian flat hat), short chitons, Macedonian chlamydes and boots, and hold sarrissas (long speares or pikes); they are in tears. These two figures constitute the finest examples of Macedonian painting found so far; their style can be readily compared to Florentine mannerism. On the wall two shields are painted. The left shied is decorated with a gorgoneion; the other with the winged thunderbolt, the attribute of Zeus, king of the gods.
