| Description |
I am at Dockweiler State Beach, at the west end of LAX. I am picnicking with friends and taking lots of photos - and some of them happen to be aviation photos. Although Aeroflot has had services to Los Angeles for a while, it's the first time that I got to actually photograph one of its planes at LAX. The nonstop service from Moscow had been operated historically by Boeing 777 and 767 equipment, but now runs with Airbus A330 as seen here. In the Cold War era, Aeroflot was the USSR's all-purpose aviation bureau, and had iconic status, particularly as the world's largest civil aviation operator (leaving United Airlines at a distant second). Post-USSR, Aeroflot is a conventional airline, sized only a tiny fraction of the old Aeroflot, but its modern Western long-range fleet is seen far more around the world. VQ-BBF "A.
