Summary[edit]

Description Port Franks, Lambton Shores and Piney Provincial Park in Ontario on the southeastern shore of Lake Huron, just east of Kettle Point, which is off to the left or west. Great Bend is off to the right or east. Look closely and you can see the old shorelines of Huron, inland from the lake, in the woods parallel to the shore. The land is rising and the lake is shrinking, due to elastic rebound. When the glacier was here, the land was pressed downward. Now it is rebounding, since it no longer bears the weight of the glacier, which departed at the end of the last ice age, about 10,000 years ago, essentially in the geologic present. Lake Huron, like most of the lakes and ponds in the flatlands in the North American interior, are puddles left by the melted glacier. All those puddles are slowly shrinking in human time, but rapidly in the geological one.
