| Description | Some adenocarcinomas are accompanied by an outpouring of large amounts of mucous into alveoli which has been ctermed 'mucinous pneumonia". The mucin-filled alveoli may or may not contain tumor cells. In a small biopsy specimen the finding of mucin-filled alveoli without identifiable tumor cells should raise the possibility of an adenocarcinoma nearby, epecially if a mass lesion is present in a chest imaging study. |
