| Description |
Tumor cells growing along the alveolar walls without stromal, vascular or lymphatic invasion. If this were the only finding in the resected tumor then the diagnosis would be adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) The finding of lepidic growth only in a biopsy specimen should be accompanied by a comment stating that invasion can only be excluded by microscopic examination of the entire tumor. Tumors with this microscopic appearance have, in the past, been called bronchioloalveolar carcinoma. This diagnostic term is now obsolete. |
