Summary[edit]

Description

Development Minister Lynne Featherstone and British Paralympic athlete Ade Adepitan joined leading experts from the UN to call for better data on disability around the world.

Speaking at today's "Disability Data Conference: Making Disability Count" (23 October 2014), they highlighted the need for more reliable data collection on disability prevalence in order to improve support for those affected in developing countries.

Lynne Featherstone said:

"As we prepare for the post-2015 development framework and the principle of ‘leave no one behind’, we must be sure that everyone is accounted for, this includes the one billion-plus people living with disability. Only by having the right information from the start will we be able to do this properly."

Ade Adepitan said:

"Wouldn’t it be amazing if everyone in the world could look their child in the eye and say 'If you work hard, you could fill your potential'? The next set of development goals needs to include disability so that we ensure no child’s potential is wasted."
