Object history Provenance: Given by the artist to the painter Valdemar Kornerup. Given to the current owner's family by descendants of Valdemar Kornerup. (In the 1880s Valdemar Kornerup and Vilhelm Hammershøi studied at the same time at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, and subsequently they both went to Kunstnernes Frie Studieskole (the Independent Art School of Artists), where P.S. Krøyer was a teacher.)
Inscriptions Unsigned. The reverse of the sheet is inscribed with pen "J. Exner Oktober Kvartal (October quarter) 1883", and with pencil "V. Hammershøi, Modelskolen (life class)", and is marked "Fremlagt Skoleraadet (presented at the school committee)". Julius Exner was a teacher at the life class at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen 1873-1893 and a member of Skolerådet (the school committee) at the Academy 1883-1905.
