The building was justabout the same then as it is now, ex-cept that the entrance was in therear. It is interesting to note thatMr. Logan, the senior partner, movedout this time, and that again_ therewas no reason given for the action. But not so in Lincolns time.Remember, it was practically on theoutskirts of the city then, and wasa very pretentious structure for thetimes. Originally it was a story andone-half, painted white with greenshutters, and white houses with greenshutters in those days signified wealthand social prestige. It was the bestthat Lincolns resources could possess, and at the time of purchase, he wasnot to be regarded lightly in the com-munity. No one knows who built the house.but it entered Lincolns possession in1844. The purchase was made fromRev. Charles Dresser, the ministerwho performed the wedding ceremonyfor Lincoln and Mary Todd.
