| Description |
English: Built in 1883-1884, this Gothic Revival-style building was constructed for the congregation of Abingdon United Methodist Church, founded in 1783. The building features a front-gable roof with a red brick exterior, gothic arched bays with stained glass windows, louvers, and doorways with stained glass transoms, a front entrance portal with a small gable, a side addition with a hipped roof, decorative stone and brick pinnacles at the front facade, a bell tower with four pinnacles, corner buttresses, a celtic cross on the front gable, and an educational wing, built on the east side of the original church structure in the early 20th Century, which features exterior buttresses, a tower with a crenellated parapet, and double-hung windows. The building is a contributing structure in the Abingdon Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. |
