Summary[edit]

Description
English: Abbey Rapids After a few miles of a fairly sedate gradient, the River Tees steepens for a short distance as it passes Egglestone Abbey and under the bridge, dropping into a short gorge. Abbey Rapids provides the main excitement in a trip from Barnard Castle down to Whorlton or Winston, but is also used as a park-and-play spot. Normally no more than grade 3, this section can reach grade 4 in high water.
