The different curves of thebearing caps in the plan should be constructed by project-ing points from the view shown in the side elevation. Inactual practice in the drawing room, three or four of theprincipal points (those that mark the limits) would be locatedand the curves sketched in freehand, they being inked in onthe tracing by aid of an irregular curve. In such cases thedraftsman has a good idea of the shape of the curves, owingto previous practice in drawing them. When drawing inthe curves formed by the opening in the bedplate shown inthis view, the student must exercise his own judgmentregarding their shape, taking care not to get them toostraight.
