by an elastic bandage with a view todriving as much of the blood as possible out of the organ inorder to reduce the bulk of the body and fundus will facilitateall efforts at restoration. Ii^cisions into the cervical tissueshave been practised by some in order to favour dilatation ofthe neck. These should be carefully done, if employed, so asto avoid undue laceration, or penetration into the peritonealcavity or adjoining viscera, e.g., bladder or rectum. A muchmore serious measure has been adopted, viz., opening theabdominal ca\ity, dilatation of the cervix on its peritonealaspect, and subsequent reinversion of the organ. This is so grave an operation that its adoption must alwaysbe guarded by great circumspection. All attempts at reduction are more likely to be attended bysuccess if they are made a week or more after the cessation ofa catamenial period rather than near that epoch. Pressureupon the inverted organ should not be too long continued forfear that sloughing may ensue. PI. 84
