Once it would be a res-ervoir, another time a cellar to a house, once a sand-pile—for which he bought two loads of sand—again a gar-den, once even a cemetery, where a funeral over Dolliewas held in great state. To us it always seemed to bea great big hole, to be refilled in time. Kitty had tosuperintend all these operations, and indeed his entirelittle life seemed divided in its interests between kittyand himself, and no amount of badinage, to which hewas often subject from those who were beyond oar con-trol, would disturb this loyalty to his darling kitty.
