orks onthe ends of my front feet. He likes to watch me get 179 A STUDY OF A CHILD ready to fly, too, which I do sometimes just to pleasehim and to keep in practice. I push my hind wings farout at the back of my body, and he says they look likea little pointed tail before they are spread; then Ispread them at the same time that I spread the frontones that make my shell-cover, and away I go. Ihear him say every time, Oh, see, mamma! Isnt thatpretty? Isnt she sweet? He often speaks of thebeautiful black spots that I have on the back of myshell wings. He says, Two on each side, and one wherethe split is. (I wonder what he means by split.) To-morrow I am going to fly up on the window andsee the sunshine that I love so much. Yesterday Isaw the window was open, and I might have flownaway, but I didnt want to do it. There is so muchto see and learn here that I like to stay. Maybe to-morrow I will go and ask Mrs. Gold-bug what all thevoices talking about silver and gold mean. She oughtto know.
