| Description |
English: A pit (one of many in this area). A few pits can be seen on an eminence close to Carman Reservoir, and many more of them (such as the one shown here) occur along a line that heads in a SSE direction.
There is a line of cornstone deposits nearby (for example, there is a prominent outcrop ( https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1253323 ) only 20 metres or so from the point at which this photo was taken); although the line of pits (oriented NNW-SSE) does not coincide with the main line of cornstone outcrops (oriented E-W), there are several other outcrops in the area. It is therefore likely that the pits are connected with the industry described here: 1178512. |
