Lochnagar, Bennachieand the Hill of Fare are among the more or less familiareminences included in the prospect. The most distant obiectthat can be distinguished towards the south is the Tower ofJohnson, on Garvock Hill, near Laurencekirk. nr5 some Blue Hill mil be interesting from its connection with theOrdnance Trigonometrical Survey. In 1817 a base line (s miles100 feet) was measured by chain on Belhelvie■ Links-an opera ionthat took six weeks to perform-and the actual length was ElSbe only three inches less than the computed length. The latterlength was founded on a base line measured on Hounslow Heathand the computed length of the sides of a triangle farmed by themeasured line as a base on Belhelvie Links, and the extremities ofit, Tarbathie and Leyton, with the Blue Hill.
