I think I cannot give a better reason for my notbeing able to give the figure of a skin of this bird,and for availing myself of Mr. Goulds friendly per-mission to copy the beautiful drawing in his work onthe Birds of Euroj^e. VOL. IV. E ^6 SllSKKIAN (KANK. The male has all its plumage a pure snow white,with the face and tour des yeux naked, rugose, red,and garnished with a few hairs; the ten first primariesof a deep black, not passed by the secondaries, whichend in long and disunited webs, like those of theCommon Crane; beak red; feet and legs lake red;iris white. The female resembles the male, but is larger. The young of the year have the head covered withyellow-ochie-coloured down; face, beak, and legs olivebrown; the rest like the adult, but less pure in colour.—Degland.
