efollowing October he was joined with the Archbishop of Dublin,the Abbot of St. Marys, and the Priors of Kilmainham andChrist Church, in strengthening the liands of a sheriff of Dublincounty under whose weak rule the march was likely to be destroyed,and three years later he was joined with the Prior of Kilmainhamand the Abbots of St. Thomass and St. Marys in reporting on theconduct of the Walshes of Carrickmines, which was then regardedin very diverse lights. Christopher became no doubt known to Richard Duke of York,the father of Edward the Fourth, on his arrival as Lord Lieu-tenant. IN PLANTAGENET AND TUDOR TIMES. 51 Christopher stood high in the Dukes favour. When the Wars ofthe Roses broke out, Christopher followed the Duke to Englandand joined his standard; and he was, no doubt, prominentamongst the earls and homagers who flocked round the Duke onhis return to Ireland in the autumn of 1459, after the desertionof his followers at Ludlow.- In the enactments of the Parliamentwhich the Duke called then in Ireland, Christophers name ismentioned several times : first, as a commissioner to adjudge com-pensation to persons suffering from the neglect of the guardians ofthe coast, then as one excepted from an act of resumption, and,lastly, as an officer of the Crown who proposed to accompany thehigh and puissant prince, Richard, Duke of York, on his returnto England.
