This is of great scientific interest tofrequenters of back rooms and cellars,where they sell you a whisk broom withevery drink, to brush yourself off whenyou get up. It confirms the minstrel gag thatone drink of white-mule will make arabbit spit in a bulldogs eye.—Sept.2, 1921. A QUEER APPETITE—An over-dose of watermelon, canned fish andcorn liquor proved more serious earlythis morning for Henderson Jackson,40, than the usual colored folks relishof catfish and ice cream might havebeen. Henderson kept his soft drink standopen near the Fairbanks plant in WestRome Sunday and appeared to be allright up to 10 oclock p. m. He hadeaten some watermelon and salmon. At1 a. m. today he staggered up to AnniePerkins home nearby and complainedof pains in his abdomen. He said hethought he would be able to make ithome soon. He never got away fromhere, although Dr. C. X. Gain wascalled.

C^C .(y^• V^<^rz:Ji^^l(^L^ 508 A History of Rome and Floyd County Coroner Ogles held an inquest thismorning, at which a verdict was return-ed saying he died from an imprudentuse of whisky and watermelon. Inves-tigators found a salmon can opened andempty at his stand.—Aug. 8, 1921. BEER ON SPEED PLACE—Twobarrels or 130 gallons of distilled beerwere discovered Friday morning byRevenue Agents Williams and Ward-law at the home of J. M. Weatherby, atBells Ferry, Oostanaula River, on theold place of the late Terrell Speed,Floyd County coonskin statesman.The officers searched a place wherebrush had been piled on the river bank,in the belief that the distillery had beeninundated by the high water. It is understood that a number ofstills have been flooded along the Oos-tanaula and also the Etowah. Weatherby is said to have stated thathe had the beer as slop for his pigs. Hewas put under $100 bond by UnitedStates Commissioner Printup and hemade the bond all right. Judge Printup put Jim
