626 A History of Rome and Floyd County MYRTLE HILL SEXTONS. No record is available of the early sextons, from 1857, when Myrtle Hill wasopened, through 1873. The following others have served: 1874-1885, Jas. E. Mullen; 1885-7, W. Mayfield Neal; 1887-92, Jas. E. Mullen;1892-97, Peter David Roser; 1897, Fred S. House (ad interim); 1897-1906, C. L.King; 1906-12, Alvin D. Hardin; 1912-22, C. L. King (now serving). THE PHILIP W. HEMPHILL GRAVEYARD.This mortal sanctuary reposes in a grove of oaks and hickories on the topof the hill between DeSoto (Mobley) Park lake and the street car line, about 100yards west of the old home of Philip Walker Hemphill, and contains the sacreddust of the following: Elizabeth Cunningham Hemphill,first wife of Philip W. Hemphill, diedApr. 9, 1844; aged 34 years and 24days. Two daughters, Margaret JaneHemphill, who died July 3, 1837; aged3 years, 3 months, 14 days, and Nancywhose slab contains the date 1841 butis otherwise indistinct. Mrs. Hemp-hills slab states
