s. Towers Fieldwith its big white T could be seennlainly. We were approaching fromEast Rome. We were getting lowerand lower, and just like a huge birdwith out-stretched wings we saileddown smoothly, without a bobble, land-ed in the upper end of the field, andlike the same big bird, hopped alongthe field, until two of the mechanicswho had signaled a safe landing ranup and swung themselves on thewings. The engine stopped and wewere down. The taking ofl and thelanding, which I had always heard wasmost difficult, was the easiest, smooth-est part of the entire flight. Miss Bessie took part in a more in-teresting and thrilling episode Jan. 17,1920—her flight from the state of sin-gle blessedness. Major Lawrence S.Churchill, U. S. A., aspired to be thepioneer in an airplane romance thatwould thrill Rome. He started in anairplane from Souther Field, Ameri-cus, with Lt. Perry W. Blackler aspilot. He was on his way toTexas and was willing to carry up a few passengers for the price of his gasoline. David A.Sparks flew and got some snaps. We see the Municipal Building, the business section.
