Woolfolk, whohas been identified with the highest interestsof the city for nearly half a century, duringwhich time he has contributed his full quotatowards its upbuilding and advancement. Ason of Joseph Harris Woolfolk, he was bornMay 13, 1828, in Woodford county, Kentucky,of Welsh ancestry. His paternal grandfather, Sewell Woolfok,was born in \irginia. in Caroline county, it isthought, being a direct descendant of one ofthree brothers who came from Wales, theirnative land, to America in colonial days, locat-ing in Airginia. In 1787.- accompanied by hisfamily, Sewell Woolfolk traveled westwardacross the mountain ridge to Kentucky, thena part of ^irginia. making the then long andwearisome journey with teams. One of thefirst settlers of Woodford county, he securedtitle to a tract of land situated six miles southof the present site of Versailles, and with thehelp of slave labor there cleared and unproveda homestead, on which he resided until his tifc H^^ ^^^*^ >tJBLiC .-
