The border consists chieflyof a conventional arrangement of vases of fruit and flowers withcupids, enclosed by a balustrade, and the middle of each side isoccupied by a scene in which are two figures: a man (possiblyApollo) seated and playing on a lyre, with a halo round his head,and a woman kneeling, with a laurel wreath on her head. 182 inches long x 87 inches. The history of this tapestry cannot be established with cer-tainty. Probably it is the subject of the following resolution ofthe Court on July 13, 1G18 : Whereas the Company have oftenborrowed a faire needleworke carpett of Mr. Proctor1 deceased touse in the Kings chamber on Election dayes and that Mrs.Proctor, widdowe, is willing to sell the same to the Companybefore any other.
