| Description | A final look at the present steel bridge on the river Kwai before we move on. taken from promenade just before bridge itself where the street market is located. Though much of the bridge is original, and built after the original wooden bridge was destroyed by Allied forces (see previous pictures earlier in this album), the two trapezoidal spans of the bridge which you see at the extreme right are repalcements, as this bridge was bombed by the Allied forces as well. You can cross the bridge on foot on the central steel-plated walkway. There are small cantilevered platforms between the spans for better views and avoiding trains. I did not walk all the way across the bridge as our tour guide had not allocated us enough time, but those who have done the walk suggest that there is nothing much at the far end, except for an elephant, poorly kept and standing in it's own feces, which one car ride for a fee. As I am dead against elephant rides, as constant riding on their back permanently damages their spine, I don't think I missed much.
