A farmer taking "Tashat" or Tibetan Sugar Palm as a feed for the pigs.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: "Tashat" or "Tahat" Tibetan Sugar Palm

Scientific name: Arenga micrantha

This plant is super essential for the Adi Tribal people as all of the plant is used in different ways like broom, as the tree trunk was consumed by native people back in days when farming was not introduced. These days it is used to feed their livestock and very less people consume it as there are many alternatives like rice, millet etc. The locals also used to make wine out of the plant. Found above 1300 meters from sea level this plant is very less identified by researchers and is thought to be threatened due to habitat destruction and over harvest.
