In her left hand she still holds the shell, that contained thepoison, while Massinissas letter announcing the deathsentence hasfallen to the ground beside her. Two lamenting women standbehind Sophonisbe. Under an archway stands a page, sorrowlylooking on the ground. Outside are seen the two messengers oi.Massinissa departing. Their faces express confusion.
