Title
A copper alloy strapend or terminal
Description
English: A late Roman copper alloy strap end, of the narrow amphora form typical of British made examples. The strapend is flat in section, with a broadly 'amphora' shaped profile. There are signs of iron corrosion at its proximal end, and from here the body of the strapend gently expands into a subtriangular, undecorated area. The narrowest point of this area forms a waist, marked by four short protrusions (perhaps the remains of a pair of 'handles'), and from here the sides gently curve outwards, forming an elongated bulbous terminal. This area is decorated with a facing pair of birds (possibly peacocks). Finally, the strapend has a flat (perhaps truncated) distal end.
