A complete cast copper alloy casket key, dating from the 12th-14th century AD.
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy casket key, probably dating from the 12th-14th century AD (length: 29.7mm; width: 8.2mm; thickness: 2.2mm; weight: 1.51g). The artefact has a circular bow with a solid shank and simple bit, and is in a very worn and corroded condition with a dark green patina.

Similar examples are illustrated in Brian Read’s ‘Metal Artefacts of Antiquity’, 2001, pages 67-72, particularly ref nos 533-9.
