Summary[edit]

Author
Willem van de Velde, the Elder
Description
English: A castle on a rocky Mediterranean coast

A small coastal view with a castle on top of a tall, overhanging rock connected by a bridge to a smaller rock nearer the water’s edge. Several figures gather on the beach in the middle distance as two rowing boats emerge from a small inlet to the right. On the right, a galley appears on the horizon. This drawing is related in its subject to PAE5251 and probably by the same hand. It was once in the collection of the artist Paul Sandby.
