ndogo, which is situatedon a small plain, on the right bank, tufted withwoods, and backed by an amphitheatre of loftyhills. The little church peeps out beautifullyfrom amidst the trees upon the river, whichthere forms a smooth and capacious bay. Abouttwo hundred yards from the river side, in a veryromantic wood is a beautiful walk called Cleddonshoots. The tourist will see as he approachesLandogo, a deep ravine on the right hand, ex-tending from the top to the bottom of the hill,through which runs a brook. A very beautifulwalk has been formed from the cottage at thefoot to the summit of this hill, in the course ofwhich are several seats and rustic bridges, andat the top two commodious alcoves present them-selves, near to which is a very pretty water-fall.The views from the different seats are beautiful,and parties may be accommodated with tea atthe Moss Cottage below, and also if required witha guide through the walks. Taken altogether,this is one of the prettiest scenes upon the Wye.

25 Below this point the Wye becomes a tide-river, and loses one of its great beauties, whichis the purity and transparency of its waters. Coedithel Weir, a large and rapid fall ofthe water, next occurs, and about a mile belowon the left bank of the river, is Brook Weir avery populous hamlet, and one of those littleports, from whence large quantities of corn,timber, hoops, and faggots, are shipped forBristol. One or two vessels were on the stocks;and the sound of the ship-builders adze andhammer rang cheerfully and almost musicallyfrom the bank. A number of white, comfort-able-looking cottages and elegant little villas,scattered about the hills in the neighbourhood,prove the prosperity of the place. At this placeit is advisable to land on the Brockweir side ofthe river, and walk about half a mile. The pathleads a little to the left from the river, througha wood to an eminence, at the top of which yousuddenly emerge from the wood, when the mostbeautiful view of the abbey and village of
