A remarkably shy bird often found foraging in the thick reeds of swampy areas. The bird is smaller than a Pond heron and prefers to remain quiet about its activities. Its calls are rare and sighting is tough due to the camouflage.

I rushed to the area which is right behind my home after my friends spotted 3 of them in the morning. By noon, I could only sight one (I am not good at sighting though). And this one flew around a bit giving me wonderful opportunity to grab a good number of flight shots which I love.

Sighting of its two cousins found in similar areas, the Black and Cinnamon Bittern are prized by birders.
