Summary[edit]

Description

Three images merged with Lightroom 6.

This wooden trestle was constructed in 1848 by the Atlantic and St. Lawrence RR to connect Portland with Yarmouth, ME and eventually with Montreal. Later it became the Grand Trunk Railroad headquartered in Montreal. GTR had an important role in Canda's becoming a confederation or so says Wikipedia. The swing bridge allowed tall masted ships entry into the Back Cove. In 1984, the wooden trestle was badly damaged as a result of arson and so it remains to this day. The 70's rock band, Grand Funk Railroad is a play on a spur of the GTR that ran through Flint, MI.
