Description
English: The map initially published in 1711 to illustrate a pamphlet: A View of the Coasts, Countries, & Islands within the Limits of the South Sea Company. The South Sea Company was a British stock venture contributing to the financial bubble of 1720 (G. Hutchinson). Published on 2 sheets.

State 3, published separately in 1726, with three additional maps (see distinctive titles), two imprint notes (H. Moll's and H. Moll's and J. King's) and a note beside Tierra del Fuego relating to Edmund Halley's positioning of Cape Horn: "Note that this Map agrees with D.r Halley &c." (A. Baynton-Williams). Also appeared in: H. Moll, The world described, [about 1730].

Dedicated to Robert Harley, Earl of Oxford, the creator of the South Sea Company. Dedication in a decorative cartouche with the family arms. Includes an inset of fictitious islands: "PEYPSES or PEPYS I.", with a number: "P. 24." in the top left corner. Includes an inset: "A Chart from ENGLAND to the River Aranoca &c." Includes an inset: "A Map of the ISTHMUS of DARIEN The BAY of PANAMA &c.", in a scale of approximately 1:5,000,000 and with the number: "P. 136" in the top right corner. Includes an inset: "A Map of ye STRAITS of MAGELLAN &c.", in a scale of approximately 1:5,000,000. Includes an inset: "The GALLAPAGOS Islands", in a scale of approximately 1:3,000,000. Includes an inset: "The Gulf of AMAPALLA or FONESCA.", oriented with North towards the left and with a number: "P. 180" in the top right corner. Includes an inset: "The Gulf of NICOYA or Gulf of SALINAS", oriented with West at the top and with a number: "P. 130." in the top left corner. Includes an inset: "The Island of JUAN FERDINANDO", with the number: "P. 60" in the top right corner. Includes an inset: "The Port of ACAPULCO", oriented with North towards the left and in a scale of approximately 1:500,000.
