Title
A Medieval copper alloy mount.
Description
English: A Medieval copper alloy mount. The mount has a square to rectangular plate from which a narrow protrusion leads to another plate with engrailed edges, a knop at one end and a rivet hole in the centre. The front surface has a gilded chequer board design on the square plate. There is an integral attachment lug protruding from the reverse. The lug is trapezoidal with no obvious sign of how it attached. The function of the mount is uncertain other than as a mount. Geoff Egan suggests that the decoration is of Medieval date and that the mount could possibly be from a heraldic gorse fitting. The mount si 54.6mm long, 16.1mm wide, 2.7mm thick and weighs 7.5 grams.
