KIT 665 KOR Kings, Books of. The first book of Kingscommences with an account of the death ofDavid, and contains a period of a hundred andtwenty-six years, to the death of Jehoshaphat;and the second book of Kings continues thehistory of the kings of Israel and Judahthrough a period of three hundred years, to thedestruction of the city and temple of Jerusa-lem by Nebuchadnezzar. These two booksformed only one in the Hebrew canon, andthey were probably compiled by Ezra from therecords which were regularly kept, both inJerusalem and Samaria, of all public transac-tions. These records appear to have beenmade by the contemporary prophets, and fre-quently derived their names from the kingswhose history they contained.
