Summary[edit]

Description

A Hawker Siddeley AV-8A Harrier from Marine Attack Squadron 513 (VMA-531) "Flying Nightmares" and a Sikorsky SH-3A Sea King (BuNo 149700) from Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 15 (HS-15) "Red Lions" aboard the U.S. Navy amphibious assult ship USS Guam (LPH-9). On 18 January 1972, Guam began extensive testing and in 1974 deployed in the Atlantic as a sea control ship with Marine Corps Harrier VSTOL fighters and Sea King ASW helicopters she completed the SCS tests and reassumed her role as an amphibious assault ship on 1 July 1974.

Note that HS-15 used the tail code "AH" of Attack Carrier Air Wing 16 (CVW-16), although the wing had been disestablished on 30 June 1971.
