Summary[edit]

Description

Saw this on the front of the coach laying over at Northgate Park & Ride. Notice the new bike rack. Forgot the coach number; all I remember is that it was in the 24XX series. Sorry for the crappy quality pic--I only had my phone with me. I don't know what's up with the EXIF data either. I cropped it and adjusted the levels--but not in Photoshop.

APC means Automatic Passenger Counter. Metro has two types: a sensitive mat and infrared beam. This one uses the mat. According to Metro the infrared ones are actually more accurate and of course have far fewer maintenance issues. It's also interesting to note that the APC data must be downloaded manually with a laptop. The coaches have on-board memory for about a week's worth of data. Less than half of the fleet (much less, but I don't remember how much less) is equipped with counters, so these coaches rotate through the majority of the routes to help with planning purposes. In the future when Metro implements its new radio system the coach will send its APC when it pulls into the base and sends and receives the rest of its data.

The D60HF's are nice buses. Roomy, wide doors, and more forward facing seats compared to the hybrids. I'm indifferent about high or low floor. And because it's a rear engine, the ride is pretty quiet in the forward part of the artic.

This was also the last day that the Northgate Park & Ride was in operation.
