Description |
Prospect of the Coast from El Mina to Mowri. Prospect of St. Georges Castle at El Mina. Cf. Koninklijke Bibliotheek, Den Haag, inv. nr. 693 C 5 dl III, to. p. 497 en 693 C 5 dl III, to. p. 461 en 61 B 25, na p. 156. Rechtsonder: Vol. 2. plate 61. p. 589. Linksonder: No. 69. English: View of the West African coast from Elmina to Mouri and a view of the castle of St. George at Elmina.
Prospect of the Coast from El Mina to Mowri. Prospect of St. Georges Castle at El Mina. Cf. Koninklijke Bibliotheek, The Hague, inv. nr. 693 C 5 dl III, opp. p. 497 and 693 C 5 dl III, opp. p. 461 and 61 B 25, after p. 156. Bottom right: Vol. 2. plate 61. p. 589. Bottom left: No. 69. Manfro is the name of the hill on which the fort at Pocquesoe was situated. From 1683 to 1717 it was the only Prussian fort in Ghana. In 1725 it fell to the WIC and was renamed Fort Hollandia. In view of the situation as depicted in the bottom print between Cabo Cors and Mouree, it is likely that 'Manfroe' refers to the Danish fort of Frederiksborg at Cabo Cors. Just like the Prussian fort at Pocquesoe, it was referred to by the name 'Koningsfort'. |
