Description

Paraqvaria vulgo Paragvay Cum adjacentibus.

Paraqvaria vulgo Paragvay Cum adjacentibus.

This map of the area between Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires was engraved by Gerard Coeck (1608/1609

circa 1649) who was commissioned by Joan Blaeu (1598-1673). Blaeu is thought to have waited more than ten years before publishing the map. The map is contained only in the big atlas of the world, the Atlas Maior, which Blaeu published from 1662 onwards.

Bottom left a dedication by Joan Blaeu to the Jesuit Vincentio Carrafa.

Bottom left an explication of the symbols used on the chart.
