Description
English: ALCO 660hp Bo-Bo diesel-electric shunter No.77120 of 1950, built for Richard Thomas & Baldwin which became part of the Steel Corporation of Wales ahich in turn became part of the British Steel Corporation. SCOW/BSC No.801shunting at the Abbey Works, Port Talbot, 09/69. Scanned photograph taken with Kowa SET. Designed for heavy shunting, 5 were built in 1950 Works Nos.77120 & 77176-9 (SCOW Nos.801-5). As these were the first locos at the then new Abbey Works, the rail system there was built with to the US loading gauge. They were very highly regarded but post-war import controls prevented any more purchases of them.
