Summary[edit]

Description Figure 1. The ABCDE model of floral organ identity specification. The identity of the different floral organs is specified by the combinatorial activity of A-, B-, C-, D-, and E-class genes (as indicated). The MADS-domain transcription factors encoded by these genes act together in different tetrameric complexes (‘quartets’) to control the developmental programs needed for the formation of sepals, petals, stamens, carpels, and ovules. Colors indicate the composition of the different MADS-domain protein quartets. Figure created with BioRender.com.
