Preliminary work underway to replace old 360-foot and 600-foot locks with new 1200-foot lock. Towboats "Suzie Q" tied off with crane barge and "Ron Shankin" downbound out of existing 1200-foot lock. Old rebar in left foreground. Note Christmas tree on top of red crane. . Twin-screw towboat "Suzie Q" (doc. # 278053, length 72 feet, breadth 24 feet, GM 12V-71 diesels, 800 hp.) Built 1959 by Ron Ryan Sons Co., Spottsville, KY. Originally "Intrepid", owned by Ohio Valley Engineering Co., Evansville, IN. After several owners and name changes ("Becky Lee" in 1978, "Illini Legend" in 1980), renamed "Suzie Q" in 1988. Owned at time of photo by M. Bowling, Inc., Henderson, KY. Renamed "Misty Dawn" in 2004. As of early 2017, owned by Marquet Services, Inc., Ashland, KY. . Twin-screw towboat "Ron Shankin" (doc. # 562078, length 145 feet, breadth 48 feet, GM 16-645E7B diesels, 6200 hp.). Built 1975 by Jeffboat, Inc., Jeffersonville, IN. Originally "Mr. Paul", operated by Fer River Towing, Inc., New Orleans, LA. Sold to VGI Marine Services Corp., New Orleans, LA in 1991. Renamed "Ron Shankin" in 1992. Operated by National Marine, Inc., New Orleans, LA.. Sold to American Commercial Lines LLC, Jeffersonville, IN in 1998. Leased to Western Kentucky Navigation, Inc., Paducah, KY until 2010.
