Summary[edit]
DescriptionA-Block at Alcatraz (2206096229).jpg |
From placard "When the army built this prison in 1912, the flat, ordinary steel bars and keyed locks of A-Block held the Army?s minimum-security prisoners. WHen the Bureau of Prisons took over in 1934, they installed case hardened, tool resistant steel bars and a remote locking system in B, C and D blocks for greater security. During the Federal Penitentiary era, 1934-1963, prisoners were almost never kept in A-Block. These cells were used for study, typing and storage". |
