Description

Accession 78-102-AR Medal, Marine Corps Brevet, Reverse 3.62" H x 1.6 " W

The Brevet medal was issued to denote brevet commissions awarded to Marine Corps Officers for service between April 15th 1861 and March 3rd 1915. (the date when Marine Corps officers became eligible for the Medal of Honor.) The medal was formally authorized on June 27th 1921. The reverse of the medal highlights the original scarlet color of the ribbon and the inscription reads, " For Distinguished Conduct/ In Presence of Enemy."
