Summary[edit]
Description4 lanes junction - geograph.org.uk - 550504.jpg |
English: 4 lanes junction This photo shows the junction of Mill Lane (ahead), Burying Lane (to right), Barrowfield Lane (to left) and Water Lane (behind). The field on the inside of the bend (to left of photo) is Barrow Field - though to my knowledge no ancient barrows have been identified in it.
Interesting that Burying Lane leads to it. I believe its name has more recent origins in the practice of carting bodies from Hoyland (up Burying Lane) to Wentworth church (up Barrowfield Lane) for burial at a time when Hoyland had no church. |
